Egyptian football player Ahmed Hossam, "Mido," is set for a more prominent role with Ajax as his teammates, Luis Suarez and Mounir El Hamdaoui, are to be sidelined for weeks.
Morocco star Mounir El Hamdaoui has been ruled out with an ankle injury following the team's 4-0 defeat to Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez has been banned for seven matchesafter biting PSV's Otman Bakkal in a league game. He won't play until February 4th.
The striking pair have relegated Mido to the bench as they have been in terrific form, scoring 18 goals--11 goals for Hamdoui and 7 for Suarez.
Mido, 27, is now presented with a golden opportunity to break through the starting XI and prove his worth.
The Egyptian star striker has returned to Ajax after spending seven years across Europe, playing for Marseille (Fra), AS Roma (Ita), Celta Vigo (Spa), and Tottenham, Wigan, West Ham and Middlesbrough (Eng). He has only played a handful of games, scoring once in the Dutch Cup.
