Opening ceremony of the Fayoum Art Center
The 5th annual opening ceremony of the Fayoum Art Center will take place on 4 February
Published in Ahram Online on 27 - 01 - 2011

The opening ceremony will be headed by Egyptian artists and the center's founder Mohamed Abla. Artists from Egypt, England, Switzerland, Slovakia and the USA will take part in the event. The opening is planned to take the form of a ‘dish party'.
Fayoum art center will also re-open its Caricature museum, where a new collection by Sentes, Zohdi and Ezz Al Arab have been added.
Fayoum art center was founded by Abla in 2006, inspired by the International Art Academy in Salzburg. The center holds art exhibitions, provides a variety of workshops and is home to an art library. The winter academy will take place between 1 February and 15 March. For details and application form please refer to the center's website.
Mohamed Abla writes on the Fayoum art center website:
"For a long time now I have believed in the immense importance and role of art, and its power and ability to create great changes in a world full of conflicts. For years I have been thinking of creating the Fayoum art center as a harbour of art, where artistic talents combine to create extraordinary art.
When the Fayoum art center was opened in 2006 it was a pleasure and an achievement to see my dream come true. I felt like there was new hope being implanted in my life and hopefully the life of artists to come.
In 2007 I decided to create the winter academy as an annual experience where artists from different nationalities, ages and backgrounds can come together. In the winter academy artists live and work together and learn from one another in the form of workshops."
Fayoum Art Center is located by Lake Qarun in Fayoum, close to the waterfalls –“Wadi El Rayan” and “Wadi Hetan” (The Whale Valley).
The opening will take place on 4 February, starting at 10 am until 5 pm.
