Two Islamist suspects killed in Algeria army ambush
Two suspected Islamists, including a local head of Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb, were killed in an army ambush overnight east of Algiers

A security source, quoted by Algeria's APS news agency, said on Wednesday, an ambush by Algerian army killed two suspected islamists naming the main target as Zoheir Tadjer, in charge of a planning for an AQIM group in the Boumerdes area, 50 kilometres (30 miles) from the capital.
The second man killed in the operation in Legata, near Boumerdes, was not named. The source said a number of weapons were seized.
Tadjer, a 24-year-old native of Legata, was involved in several AQIM attack in the area, according to Algerian authorities. A Boumerdes court sentenced him in absentia to life in prison.
AQIM also operates in Niger, Mali and Mauritania but its leadership is dominated by Algerians. It was founded in the late 1990s with the aim of toppling the Algerian government and creating an Islamic state.
