Al-Zaytoun literary workshop is to host an event Monday, 9 July celebrating late Egyptian novelist Ibrahim Aslan's posthumous success in winning Egypt's esteemed literature and arts Nile Prize. Aslan's son, Hesham, is expected to attend along with writers Said El-Kafrawy, Hoda Tawfiq, Gamal Makkar and Mohamed Ibrahim. The event will be chaired by critic Shaaban Youssef. Ibrahim Aslan, who passed away in early 2012, was awarded the Nile Prize for his works on Saturday. The award is considered the highest literary honour granted by the state; the prize-winner is awarded LE400,000 and a golden medal. Aslan is regarded as one of the most remarkable writers of the 1960s generation and was best known for his novelsBohayrat Al-Massa(The Night's Lake)andMalek El-Hazaeen (The Heron), which was made into the famous movieKitKat,a jewel of Egyptian cinema in the 1990s.
