El-Awa, Abul-Fotouh and Sabbahi appeal electoral violations Egypt election body begins recieving complaints about violations from presidential candidates
Sources at the Supreme Presidential Electoral Commission have received appeals from three former presidential candidates, citing violations in the electoral process. The candidates submitting complaints are moderate Islamist Abdel-Moneim Abul-Fotouh, Islamic scholar Mohamed Selim El-Awa and Nasserist Hamdeen Sabbahi. The three were ousted in the first round of Egypt's first post-Mubarak presidential polls which took place on 23-24 May. The second round is slated for 16-17 June and preliminary results have revealed Muslim Brotherhood candidate Mohamed Mursi will compete with Mubarak-era minister Ahmed Shafiq. On Sunday, the official results of the first round will be announced and candidates who have been eliminated are then expected to hand in appeals against the results. Final results, taking into account any appeals, will be announced on Tuesday.
