Egypt's Karateka Feryal Abdelaziz played out a 0-0 draw against Algeria's Lamya Matoub in her final game of the elimination round Group B of the +61kg event on Saturday to reach the semifinal and ensure a new medal for Egypt. Earlier on Saturday, Feryal beat China's Li Gong 4-0 in the first game before winning by Senshu (3-3) against Elena Quirici of Switzerland in the second game. Abdelaziz then lost her only game, falling 9-7 to Iran's Hamideh Abbasali. The 22-year-old will face face Kazakhstan's Sofya Berultseva of in the semi final later on Saturday. Giana Farouk gave Egypt its first karate medal on Friday after winning bronze in the women's kumite 61kg. The country's athletes have so far won four bronze medals -- two in taekwondo, one in wrestling and one in karate.
