Egypt's Wrestler Mohamed 'Kesho' Ibrahim Elsayed has won the bronze medal in the Greco-roman 67kg event at Tokyo Olympics after beating the 2018 World Champion Artem Surkov of Russia in the bronze medal contest on Wednesday.
The 23-year-old Kesho defeated 7-6 veteran Korean wrestler Hasu Ryu (33), who won the world title in 2013 and 2017, in Round of 16. In the quarters he won by technical points (7-7) against Karen Aslanyan of Armenia.
On Tuesday, the two-time U23 champion Kesho lost narrowly 6-7 to Parviz Nasibov of Ukraine in the semi-final.
Kesho's bronze medal is Egypt's eighth Olympic medal ever in Greco-roman Wrestling and also the country's third bronze medal at the Prestigious Tkoyo event after the two bronze medals by Hedaya Malak and Seif Eissa in Taekwondo. Egypt's last medal in Greco-roman Wrestling was the silver one by Karam Gaber in the 2012 London Olympics.
Later on Wednesday, Wrestler Mohamed Metwally lost to Denis Maksymilian Kudla of Germany in the bronze medal contest of the Greco-roman 87kg event.
Metwally, who will turn 26 this month, won by technical superiority (9-1) against 2021 European silver medalist Kiryl Maskevich of Ukraine in round of 16 and then made a demonstration of power against Cuban Daniel Gregorich by pinning him to the mat in just one round in the quarter final. Then, he lost also 9-2 in the semi-finals of the 87 event against Hungary's Viktor Lorincz
The 26-year-old Kudla has won the bronze medal in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 and finished third in the World championship in 2019.
