Activists launch public monitoring campaigns for upcoming presidential polls
Organisers of two pro-transparency campaigns announce Tuesday intentions to observe upcoming presidential elections

A number of political activists announced on Tuesday the launch of two campaigns geared towards public monitoring of Egypt's upcoming presidential.
The two campaigns called Shafenkum (We're Watching You) and Rassdinhum (We're Monitoring Them) hope to achieve the maximum degree of transparency in the elections process across the country, according to campaign organisers speaking at Tuesday's launch at the Press Syndicate in Cairo.
Bothiana Kamel, well-known political activist and former presidential candidate as well as co-founder of Shafenkum, called on journalists and citizens to join the campaign and monitor presidential elections to ensure transparency.
She also announced the movement will post tutorial videos on its official website to teach citizens how to monitor elections.
Kamel revealed that Shafenkum will provide live broadcasts from inside polling stations.
Reformist judge Zakaria Abdel-Aziz, who announced the launch of Rassdinhum, explained that the campaign will focus on the judges and their work inside polling stations despite the campaign's full respect for judges and their integrity. Nevertheless, the campaign aims to cooperate with these judges in enforcing the principles of democracy in Egypt.
Shafenkum was formed in 2006 to fight and expose corruption during the regime of former strongman Hosni Mubarak. In 2010 and 2011, the pro-democracy campaign participated in monitoring parliamentary polls.
Egypt's first post-Mubarak presidential poll will be held on 23 and 24 May, with a runoff vote on 16 and 17 June if no single candidate wins an outright majority. Egypt's next president will be formally named on 21 June.
