Ireland, Scotland, Wales mull Euro 2020 bid Three nations considering joint bid for 2020 European Championship; Turkey is the only candidate so far for the 24-team tournament
A person familiar with the situation says Ireland, Scotland and Wales are considering mounting a joint bid to host the 2020 European Championship. The person says the three nations have submitted a formal declaration of interest to UEFA. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the decision had not been publicly announced. The decision was also reported by British media. The deadline to declare an interest is Tuesday, but the three nations don't have to decide whether to submit a formal bid until next year. Turkey had been the only candidate so far for the 24-team tournament. UEFA is to announce the host in late 2013 or early 2014. Istanbul is also bidding for the 2020 Olympics. The IOC and UEFA have indicated Turkey can't host both events. For more sports news and updates, follow Ahram Online Sports on Twitter:@AO Sports)
