Cairo airport employee referred to criminal court for taking non-consensual photos of woman

Egypt's prosecution referred a Cairo International Airport employee to a criminal court for stealthily taking photos of a woman.

The assaulter was arrested shortly after the victim had gone on a live stream, accusing him of taking a photo of her back without her consent while she was finalising her arrival procedures at the airport following her return from a trip to Beirut on Monday.

The woman, who was crying in the video, said she did not notice the incident but her friends did. They confronted the assaulter but he denied the allegation.

The woman and her friends complained at a security office at the airport and the officers found photos of her and other women on his phone, she said.

In a statement on Wednesday, the prosecution said a unit from the prosecutor-general's office traced the woman's video.

The defendant was caught red-handed after his mobile was confiscated and investigators found two photos of the woman and photos of other women in the same position, the statement noted.

The defendant justified taking the photos by saying he was documenting the crowdedness at the airport to report it to his managers, it added.

Investigations proved the employee is not entitled to take photos at the airport, according to the statement.
