Mohamed Salah was voted as Liverpool's best player of the 2020/21 season after enjoying another remarkable campaign in which he came agonizingly close to scooping the Premier League's top scorer award. The Egyptian King, who scored 22 goals in the elite competition, narrowly missed out on the Golden Boot award on the final day of the season after being pipped by Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane, who netted his 23rd in a 4-2 victory over Leicester City on Sunday. However, Salah still played an instrumental role in helping Liverpool earn a Champions League spot after the Reds finished third in the Premier League. He scored 31 goals in 51 appearances in all competitions, moving 12th in Liverpool's list of all-time top scorers. The 28-year-old won the best player award in a fan vote, coming ahead of Brazilian midfielder Fabinho and defender Nathaniel Phillips. "Of course, I'm happy to win this award, especially as it is voted for by fans, but winning our final games and qualifying for the Champions League was the most important thing," Salah told Liverpool's official website. "I think I have played OK this season, but it's not about me – it's about the team. For us as a team, I think if we'd had the fans in the stadium, our position, our situation, would have been much better. We suffered a lot this season with missing the fans. "So I am happy in the last game of the season we played with our fans. It was great to see them back in the stadium."
