Munich's quartet calls for international community support to end Israeli-Palestinian conflict: Egyptian foreign minister
Published in Ahram Online on 11 - 03 - 2021

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said that Munich's quartet committee, which is tasked with supporting the peace process in the Middle East, is calling for support from the international community to relaunch Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations and end the conflict.
"We hope that the international community, especially the US, will stand together to support the settlement efforts and end the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in order for the Middle East to enjoy stability, peace, and security," Shoukry told a joint press conference with committee members in Paris on Thursday.
The group, comprising Egypt, France, Germany, and Jordan's foreign ministers, held a meeting in France earlier today as part of its ongoing endeavours to help revive the already frozen Israeli-Palestinian peace process.
The Egyptian minister also said that the committee "greatly" appreciates the role that the new US administration can play in this respect.
The committee is waiting for the election process in both Palestine and Israel to re-launch the peace negotiation track, Shoukry added.
He asserted that the committee will keep working "vigorously" on establishing a Palestinian state based on the two-state solution, the decisions of international legitimacy and the Security Council, and previous negotiations.
He noted that the Palestinian people deserve to receive their legitimate rights, stressing the importance of reviving negotiations as soon as possible.
Thursday's gathering is the fourth for the quartet, which was established on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference held in February 2020.
