Ahly handed controversial winger Mahmoud Kahraba a one-month suspension for disciplinary reasons that they did not specify, the club announced on Wednesday. The Red Devils also said in a brief statement on their official website that Kahraba was fined EGP 200,000 ($12,700) for "lack of commitment", without elaborating further. The 26-year-old joined Ahly on a free transfer in January 2020 after terminating his contract with Portuguese club Desportivo Aves. Seven months later, he was hit with a $2 million fine by world governing body FIFA for breaching his contract with Ahly's Cairo rivals Zamalek to join Aves in the summer of 2019. Although Kahraba has been a key Ahly member since joining, he continued his habit of stirring controversy. He was banned for 10 matches by the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) in February last year after being involved in an altercation with several Zamalek players during a bad-tempered Egyptian Super Cup game that took place in the United Arab Emirates. Last September, he was handed an EGP 1 million fine ($63,800) by Ahly following a training ground bust-up with the team's goalkeeper Mohamed El-Shennawi. The latest controversy saw him miss Ahly's clash against South American champions Palmeiras in the Club World Cup third-place playoff last month after violating the tournament's COVID-19 precautionary measures. Kahraba will now not be available for key Ahly games in the domestic league and the African Champions League. He has made a superb start to the season, netting six goals in 14 appearances in all competitions.
