Presidential candidate Sabahi campaign hits Nile Delta governorate Menoufiya, a Nile Delta governorate, is a two-day stop on Hamdeen Sabahi's presidential campaign trail starting Sunday
Presidential hopeful,Hamdeen Sabahi, is to visit Menoufiya governorate on Sunday as part of his presidential campaign. The Nasserite candidate will hold several rallies and conferences around Menoufiya throughout his two-day visit. Menoufiya is located on the Delta of the Nile, with Cairo to its north. The governorate is regarded as one of the most densely populated areas in Egypt. Sabahiis a veteran Nasserite opposition figure and former member of the People's Assembly (lower house of parliament) and is known for his outspoken criticism of the United States and Israel. Although he is a member of the Karama Party and could have run representing his party, he decided in March 2011 to run on an independent ticket. He did not run in the parliamentary elections later that year, in order to focus on the presidential contest. Presidential elections will take place on 23 and 24 May, and the president will be named on 21 June after a runoff voting round, if no one wins over 50 percent of the vote, on 16 and 17 June.
