Lithuanian marathon runner Zivile Balciunaite lost her appeal against a two-year ban for doping on Monday, ruling her out of the London Olympics. The Court of Arbitration for Sport dismissed Balciunaite's appeal against the ban imposed by Lithuania's athletics federation in 2010 after she failed a doping test due to excessive levels of testosterone and epitestosterone. The decision strips Balciunaite of her 2010 European championships title from Barcelona. Second-place Nailya Yulamanova of Russia is set to be upgraded to gold. Italy's Anna Incerti would receive silver and Tatyana Filoniuk of Ukraine the bronze. Balciunaite has rigorously denied the doping charges, claiming the test results may have been influenced by a prescription drug from her gynecologist. The runner has been training in the hope she could participate at the London games. “Nobody even told me this. Maybe they were saving the bad news for my birthday,” said Balciunaite, who turns 33 on Tuesday. The suspension expires Sept. 6.
