Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola heaped praise on Lionel Messi following his recent spate of impressive performances, likening the player to American basketball legend Michael Jordan.
The talented forward became Barcelona's all-time leading scorer with 234 goals following his hat-trick in Tuesday's 5-2 win over Grenada, surpassing Cesar Rodriguez's haul of 232 goals.
"There are few players who dominate like this, but he does it," Guardiola was quoted as saying by Sky Sports. "You can compare him perfectly to Jordan."
"The day that Leo Messi overcame Cesar, we had a game from that era. Leo has entered history. Those who knew Cesar have told me that he was exceptional," he added.
The 24-year-old has been one of Barca's undisputed stars since earning his La Liga debut in 2004, scoring 54 goals in 45 games in all competitions in his first season with the Catalans.
"I want to thank the team for overcoming all adversity, and this guy who is continuing to make history,” Guardiola said.
"It's all been said before about Messi. He doesn't only score goals, he scores great goals; each one is better than the last.
"I'm sorry for those who try to take his throne, but this kid is different, better – we're excited to have him," he concluded.
