Egypt detects 1,547 new coronavirus cases; total infections near 54,000

Egypt detected 1,547 new coronavirus cases on Saturday, reporting a total infections tally of 53,758 since the outbreak in mid February, the health ministry announced.
The ministry also reported 89 new deaths, bringing the total deaths from the virus to 2,106.
The statement said that 399 patients, have been discharged, bringing the total number of recoveries to 14,327.
Health ministry spokesman Khaled Megahed said in the statement that the number of people whose test results have turned from positive to negative, including the 14,327 recoveries, has now reached 15,779.
