Gedo criticises Port Said MPs over anti-Ahly remarks
Ahly forward Geddo criticises the stance taken by Port Said-based members of parliament following Egypt's worst football disaster
Published in Ahram Online on 09 - 03 - 2012

Ahly forward Mohamed Nagy “Geddo” took a swipe at the Port Said-based members of parliament for criticising the fans of his team, 74 of whom were killed in Egypt's worst football disaster.
The tragedy saw thousands of Masry supporters storm the pitch to confront Ahly's visiting fans immediately following the end of an Egyptian Premier League game on the first of February.
Parliament members Akram El-Shaer and El-Badry Farghaly, who are both based in the coastal city, launched a scathing attack on Ahly and their supporters in the wake of the disaster.
El-Shaer implicitly accused Ahly fans of inciting the violence by lifting a banner that mocked Port Said while Farghaly angrily said he would “exploit the corruption of Ahly's board of directors and their chairman, Hassan Hamdy”.
Both men also said they would not allow anyone to make Masry “a scapegoat”.
“I'm astonished by the remarks of the parliament members,” Geddo, Egypt's hero in their triumphant 2010 African Cup of Nations campaign in Angola, said in an interview with Ahly's in-house television channel.
“I don't know how the parliament members are saying Masry should not be punished. It is unimaginable that the fans go to Port Said to support their team and then die.
“They have to stop provoking the people. Masry should face a punishment with a great deterrent effect,” he added.
