Egypt MP calls for more women, Copts in constituent assembly Women, Copts should be fairly represented in constituent assembly tasked with writing new constitution, says liberal MP Amr Hamzawy
Liberal MP Amr Hamzawy has called for women and Copts to be fairly represented in the constituent assembly charged with drafting Egypt's new constitution. Hamzawy made the comments at Saturday's joint session of the People's Assembly and Shura Council convened to discuss the assembly's formation. The underrepresentation of women, Copts and youth in parliament should be taken into account when forming the constituent assembly, he asserted. Hamzawy also suggested that only thirty members of the 100-member assembly should be MPs.
