The Libyan National Army (LNA) has praised efforts exerted by Egypt under President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to maintain security and stability of Libya, a LNA official said. In televised statements during a phone call with Egyptian TV satellite DMC, Khaled al-Mahjoub, head of the Libyan National Army mobilization department, reiterated on Friday that Egypt is Libya's real supporter that can help settle the situation in favor of the Libyan army and prevent Turkish intervention. Al-Mahjoub stressed that the Libyan army has made great progress to uproot militias in Tripoli, adding that directives have been given to target any support from Turkey by sea or air amid complete Arab and regional rejection for interference in Libya. His statements come as Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said Turkey will send troops to Libya at the request of Tripoli as soon as January, signalling mounted tensions in the region since a controversial accords signing between Ankara and Libya's UN-recognized Governmen of National Accord (GNA) led by Prime Minister Fayez Al-Sarraj. In the past days, Egypt has reiterated its firm stance on supporting the eastern-based Libyan National Army led by commander Khalifa Haftar, stressing its rejection of "any form of intervention in Libya's internal affairs".
