Greece's Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias will hold talks in Cairo with his Egyptian counterpart on Sunday about two MoUs recently signed between Turkey and Libyan Prime Minister Fayez Al-Serraj to delineate the maritime boundaries between the two countries, according to AP. The official spokesperson of Egypt's foreign ministry was not immediately available for a confirmation. Egypt has condemned the signing of the MoUs on Thursday, describing it as a "negative move" with no "legal effect". "The two memoranda of understanding have no legal effect, they cannot be officially recognised in light of the Skhirat Agreement's Article 8, which stipulates that the [Libyan] government or the cabinet, not the prime minister, have the authority to sign international agreements," the Egyptian foreign ministry said in a statement. On Friday, Greek Foreign Minister Dendias asked the Libyan ambassador to Athens to present the deal with Turkey by 5 December or face expulsion, a day after dismissing the maritime boundaries deal. Late last week, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the Libyan PM Al-Serraj signed the two MoUs on security and maritime boundaries in the Mediterranean. The Turkey-Libya deal has added tension to an ongoing dispute with Greece, Cyprus and Egypt over oil-and-gas drilling rights in the eastern Mediterranean.
