The 18th edition of the Aswan International Sculpture Symposium sheds light on works in granite. The symposium, which opened on 18 January and will continue until 3 March, revives the value of granite as a stone whose history takes us back to Ancient Egypt and continues to serve as an inspiring material for contemporary artists. This year's symposium brings together artists from Egypt, in addition to sculptors from Spain, Bulgaria, Taiwan and Cuba, along with architects working in the medium. Exhibitions and a series of lectures will shed light on the flexibility of granite, exploring artistic ideas and sculpting methods. Photos by Bassam Zoghby. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/35076.aspx
