Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi took part in an African-Chinese summit on the sidelines on Thursday of the G-20 summit that kicks off on Friday in Japan's Osaka, the Egyptian Presidency said. According to the Egyptian presidency, Chinese President Xi Jinping, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, and Senegalese President Macky Sall along with United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres took part in the summit. In the summit meeting, President El-Sisi asserted that Egypt was keen on achieving the goals from the African-Chinese partnership as well as the goals of the African Union's Agenda 2063 and the UN's 2030 Agenda for sustainable developments El-Sisi also spoke in the meeting about the need to boost Chinese cooperation with Africa through effective partnerships as well as figuring out the best way to fund infrastructure projects in the continent like the Cairo-Cape Town highway and Lake Victoria, Mediterranean Sea navigation line link, and other similar projects. From his side, Chinese President Xi Jinping discussed the results of the Belt and Road initiative forum that was held in China in April 2019, and how that initiative enforced China's leading role as a world economic power that supports the interests of developing countries. Currently Egypt chairs the African Union.
