Preview: Ahly face easy test against bottom club as they look to edge closer to title
Published in Ahram Online on 04 - 05 - 2019

Defending champions Ahly, who are eyeing a fourth consecutive Egyptian Premier League title, will be looking to maintain their position on top of the table when they play bottom side Nogoom on Sunday.
Ahly, who lost only once in their last 15 games as some January signings have turned around their fortunes, managed to bridge a seven-point gap with perennial rivals Zamalek to move join top.
They have 64 points, on level with Pyramids FC, who played two matches more, and four clear of third-placed Zamalek who still have a game in hand.
Ahly are seeking solace in the local league following their embarrassing African Champions League exit at the quarter-final stage, having lost 5-1 to South Africa's Mamelodi Sundowns on aggregate.
They look well-equipped to continue their domestic dominance, thanks to a series of efficient displays.
The only concern among Ahly's demanding fans is the team's wastefulness.
They wasted a plethora of chances in their last league outing and only settled the game against Talae El-Geish in their favour in their dying minutes, thanks to a superb low shot from in-form Tunisian left-back Ali Maaloul that gave them a precious 2-1 win.
"Everyone know that the team is under pressure but we always show our true character when it matters most," said Ahly's assistant coach Mohamed Youssef.
Ahly's Angolan winger Geraldo is available for the match against Nogoom after recovering from a clash with El-Geish keeper that left him dizzy as he was replaced shortly afterwards.
Nogoom have slim hopes to avoid relegation as they lie at the bottom of the table with 25 points, eight behind the safety zone.
