President Abdel Fattah El Sisi conferred on Sunday at his residence here with Vice President of Daimler AG Group Eckart von Klaeden on means of boosting cooperation between Egypt and the group. Member of Divisional Board of Mercedes-Benz Cars, Production and Supply Chain Management Markus Schäfer attended the meeting. Presidential Spokesman Bassam Radi said the meeting took up Mercedes plans to resume its activities for car production and assembly in Egypt. They also discussed ways to develop the company's activities to include projects for electric cars, smart roads and transportation in the smart cities especially buses that could be used for transportation on highways, taking into consideration the increase of the local components and the value added taxes along with exportation to regional and international markets, added the spokesman. The spokesman noted that Sisi voiced welcome of a statement released last month by Mercedes about resuming its activities in Egypt, asserting that Cairo was keen on intensifying cooperation with the group in light of the state's policy of expansion in the automobiles industry. He said that the company officials expressed strong appreciation of the level of cooperation with the Egyptian government towards resuming the company's activities in Egypt, noting that they highly value the Egyptian market for its importance as a gateway to regional and international markets.
