Morocco govt aims for 5.5 pct annual GDP growth Prime minister outlines economic programme for the next four years in front of newly-elected parliament
Morocco's new government aims to raise economic growth to an average 5.5 per cent per year over its 2012-2016 mandate period, Prime Minister Abdelilah Benkirane said on Thursday. Outlining his government's programme before parliament, Benkirane also said he targets an annual inflation rate of 2 per cent until end-2016. GDP growth stood at 4.5 per cent in 2010 and is expected to stand at between 4 and 5 per cent in 2011. Benkirane is from Justice and Development (PJD), the moderate Islamist party that won a November election which the Arab world's longest-serving monarchy had brought forward by almost a year to pre-empt a popular revolt like those that have ended the rule of four Arab leaders.
