Ahly's caretaker manager Mohamed Youssef has said that he hopes the team will perform better under the club's new Uruguayan tactician Martin Lasarte. The Cairo giants announced they had signed Lasarte on Sunday on a one-and-a-half-year contract, to replace Patrice Carteron after the Frenchman was sacked in November over the loss of the African Champions League final against Tunisian Esperance and the team's exiting of the Zayed Champions Cup. Ahly introduced the 57-year-old coach in a press conference on Monday and he is to officially lead the team in 10 days. “I met with Lasarte and we discussed some information about the team. I hope we perform better with him and find our way back to competing. I expect it to be a good period for the team especially after the new January signings and after the recovery of our injured players,” said Youssef, who will stay on as assistant coach under Lasarte. Ahly sealed their fourth straight league win on Monday, defeating Nogoum FC 2-0 at Al-Salam Stadium to sit fifth in the table with 23 points, 12 points behind leaders and arch-rivals Zamalek who have played three more matches.
