Preview: Ahly seeking to maintain mini-revival in Egyptian league
Published in Ahram Online on 08 - 12 - 2018

Stuttering Ahly are out to maintain a recent mini-revival as they eye a third consecutive Egyptian Premier League win at the expense of Talae El-Geish on Sunday.
A poor run of form saw Ahly lose two consecutive matches but they recovered with two victories over Petrojet and Gouna, although they still looked far from convincing.
In their last match against Gouna, they came from behind to earn a hard-fought 2-1 win over Gouna, with the second-half introduction of in-form winger Walid Soliman making all the difference.
The Red Devils, who still have a handful of rescheduled matches, can ill-afford to drop more points as they seek to keep in touch with leaders and arch-rivals Zamalek, who are on a seven-match winning run.
"All matches are of equal importance. We need to win them all to return to our usual position [on top]," Ahly's caretaker coach Mohamed Youssef said on the club's official website.
"Al-Geish are a good team and they are doing well this season, but we are highly motivated to claim all three points."
Depleted Ahly are still missing a number of key players through injury, including Tunisian left-back Ali Maaloul and Malian defender Salif Coulibaly.
Moroccan marksman Walid Azaro, the league's top scorer last season, was also left out after picking up a foot injury.
Ahly lie 10th in the league table with 17 points, but they will be only three points short of Zamalek should they win their rescheduled matches. El-Geish are eighth with18 points from 15 games.
