Pianist Ramzi Yassa to play in Manial's Prince Mohamed Ali Palace
Renowned Egyptian pianist will perform four Beethoven sonatas at palace's Golden Hall on Sunday, 15 January
Published in Ahram Online on 02 - 01 - 2012

Internationally recognised Egyptian pianist Ramzi Yassa will perform Beethoven's four sonatas – “Moonlight,” “Les Adieux,” “Waldstein” and “Appassionata” – at Manial's Prince Mohamed Ali Palace on 15 January.
Yassa studied music as one of the first students at the Cairo Conservatoire. He continued his musical education in Moscow, graduating from the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in 1974. Three years later, he won the First Grand Prix at the prestigious Santander International Competition, along with the E. Casanueva Prize.
Yassa has performed at some of the most prestigious concert halls in the world, including the Barbican, the Kennedy Center, the Mann Auditorium, the Berliner Philharmonic, the Musikverein, the Palau, the Tivoli and the Théâtre des Champs Elysées. He has played alongside numerous world-famous musicians and conductors, such as Vladimir Ashkenazy, Charles Groves, Yehudi Menuhin, Zubin Mehta, Leonard Slatkin and Horst Stein.
Yassa has also served as a jury member for several prestigious piano competitions, and continues to give recitals around the world. Currently residing in France, Yassa frequently visits Cairo to give recitals at the Cairo Opera House, Prince Mohamed Ali Palace and the American University in Cairo, among other venues.
Yassa is also artistic director at the International Music Center, which, since 2002, with help from the Culture Development Fund, has lured audiences to performances by handpicked musicians. For years, concerts held under the umbrella of Egypt's International Music Centre were performed in Manasterly Palace on Cairo's Rhoda Island. Due to restorations, however, the venue was eventually moved to Prince Mohamed Ali Palace's Golden Hall.
Programme:
Sunday, 15 January, 8pm
Golden Hall, Prince Mohamed Ali Palace
Manial, Cairo
Tickets can be purchased for LE50 each at the Culture Development Fund located on the grounds of the Cairo Opera House.
