Four Egyptian films in competition for development funds during Malmo Arab Film Festival
Published in Ahram Online on 18 - 07 - 2018

Four Egyptian films in different stages of production are among the Arab films pitching for development funds at the fourth Malmo Market Forum (MFF), running as part of the 8th edition of the Malmo Arab Film Festival (MAFF).
The market forum will run from 6-8 October as part of the larger MAFF festival from 5-9 October. The market forum includes two sections, the first being the MAFF Development Fund for Arab-Swedish co-productions, and the second the MAFF Post Production Platform.
Three of the Egyptian-Swedish films were selected to compete for MAFF's Development Fund. Blood and Honey is selected in the feature films category, made by Arab producer Mohamed Siam and Swedish producer Christer Nelson.
Everyday at 6am by Yasser Shafiey and William Johansson and a documentary named Omar Sherif by Arab producer Mark Lotfy and Swedish producer Sigrid Helleday were selected in the documentary category.
One Egyptian feature, When We're Born, directed by Tamer Ezzat Ezzat and produced by Moataz Abdelwahab, was selected for the Post Production Platform.
At the MFF, representatives of all 16 competing Arab films will be presenting their films to potential producers. It gives them with an opportunity “to extend their networks and initiate new international collaborations and co-productions,” as stated on the MAFF website.
MAFF was founded in 2011 by general manager and artistic director Mouhamad Keblawi, and grew to become one of the largest Arab film festivals and platforms for Arab culture.
The programme for the rest of the upcoming MAFF has not yet been announced.
