Egypt continues to make a strong show in the 2018 Mediterranean Games, currently holding fifth place out of 25 competing nations, with swimmer Farida Osman ranking fourth of 68 in the individual multi-medalists' table. Egypt was well represented in the competition on Wednesday at Tarragona, as a strong round of weightlifting brought two gold medals from Mohamed Gaber in 105 kg "Snatch" and "Clean & Jerk," gold from Ragab Abdallah in 94kg "Snatch," as well as a bronze from Dina Barakat in 75kg "Clean & Jerk". Egypt, currently holding 33 medals, jumped up from sixth place in the table on Tuesday, partly thanks to Nancy Taman's addition of a gold medal for women's pole vault in the artistic gymnastics finals. The country's ranking was also raised by a strong round in women's weightlifting on Tuesday, with Olympic medalist Sara Ahmed, who in 2016 became the first Egyptian woman in history to make the podium in her category, gaining two golds for 69kg "Snatch" and "Clean & Jerk." Heba Ahmed also took bronze in the 48 kg category. With four days remaining before the competition finishes on Sunday, Egypt can expect a fighting show from Olympic medalist Hedaya Wahba in Thursday's taekwondo. Promising positions in the volleyball quarterfinals and mixed team equestrian finals could add to the scoreboard.
