Manchester City's Ivorian midfielder Yaya Toure expressed his desire to delay his departure to the Africa Cup of nations in order to help the Citizens in their campaign in the Premier League.
It was settled that Toure joins Ivory Coast's trainings on 11 January, but the player wants to make it on 17th of the same month.
"We're due to start training with the national team on the 11th.The problem is in this country we don't stop while around Europe they have a break. Here, in December and January you are playing every three days. So maybe I can go on the 16th or 17th. The competition does not start till the 21st," Yaya Toure was quoted as saying by Sky sports.
The Africa Cup of nations scheduled from 21 January to 12 February comes at bad time for Manchester City which will play seven Leagues' games during this period.
The Citizens also have a crucial clash against Liverpool in the Carling Cup semi-final.
The African player of the Year is confident about his teammates capacities to Keep Manchester City at the top of the English Premier League table.
"I have total confidence in my friends here. We have Nigel de Jong, James Milner, Samir Nasri and Gareth Barry can all play that position and do a fantastic job," he added.
"It will be hard; we play Liverpool twice in the cup and play Manchester United as well. I hope my friends will do well because now we have a good chance." Toure concluded.
