The 32 ministers in the cabinet of Egypt's newly appointed Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly were sworn in before President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi on Thursday. Last week, President El-Sisi appointed Housing Minister Madbouly as a new prime minister and tasked him with forming the new cabinet, following the resignation of the cabinet of former PM Sherif Ismail. The new cabinet includes 12 new ministers. Mohamed Zaki – Minister of Defence Mohamed Zaki, the former commander of the Republican Guard, was sworn in as defence minister to succeed Sedki Sobhy. Zaki was appointed as the head of the Republican Guard in August 2012. He was promoted to lieutenant general in January 2017. Zaki is known for his pivotal role in the June 2013 uprising, which toppled former Islamist President Mohamed Morsi. The new defence minsiter was born in 1956. He served in the infantry and participated in the campaign to liberate Kuwait in 1991. Mahmoud Tawfik – Minister of Interior Mahmoud Tawfik was born in August 1961 in Giza governorate and graduated from the Police Academy in 1981. Tawfik served in several interior ministry departments, mainly on issues of National Security Department. He also served as the deputy head of the National Security Department before being appointed as the head of the National Security Agency in October 2017. The new interior minister is known for his counter-terrorism initiatives and successful dismantling of many terrorist cells in recent years. Amr Bayoumy – Minister of Trade and Industry An engineering graduate, Nassar has served as the secretary-general of the Engineering Export Council of Egypt (EEC) since January 2012. Prior to this, he was deputy head of the International Association of Public Transport for the MENA region for four successive terms from 2008 to 2014. The 56-year-old has extensive experience in the automotive industry, having worked as an advisor to Manufacturing Commercial Vehicles, a privately-owned Egyptian manufacturer of buses and trucks. He was also a board member at the Chamber of Engineering Industries for the Vehicles Division. Mohamed Maeet – Minister of Finance Maeet, 55, served as deputy finance minister for the public treasury under outgoing PM Ismail starting October 2015. Maeet was also an aide to finance ministers from 2007 to 2013. Maeet then briefly served as Chairman of the Financial Supervisory Authority. In July 2013, Maeet was appointed as a top aide to the health minister for insurance affairs before returning to the finance ministry in late 2015 as a top aide to the minister. Maeet has taught at several public and private Egyptian universities. He earned his PhD from City University in London. Hala Zayed – Health Minister Zayed, 50, is the CEO of the Health Sciences Academy of Egypt's prominent charity cancer Hospital 57357. Zayed held several positions in the health ministry from 2006 to 2016, including aide to the minister, head of the ministry's strategic planning unit, as well as chairing the ministry's supervisory department and its anti-corruption committee. She also headed the ministry's National Training Institute. Yasmine Fouad- Minister of Environment Fouad is an assistant professor of political sciences, and served as aide to the environment minister for the past four years. Since 2014, she has been acting director of Cairo University's Research and Economic and Financial Studies Centre. Mahmoud Shaarawy- Minster of Urban Development Shaarawy, who graduated from the Police Academy in 1980, served as an officer in the national security apparatus' counter-extremism administration. Shaarawy also served as the minister of interior's deputy for national security. Ezz El-Din Abu-Seteit – Minister of Agriculture Abu-Seteit graduated from the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences in 1977, and received an MA in Agricultural Sciences from the University of Minnesota in 1980 and a PhD in Agricultural Sciences from the University of North Carolina in 1983. He managed a project funded by the Japan International Cooperation Authority (JICA) to implement sustainable systems for producing food crops and energy in the Nile Valley in Egypt. Hesham Tawfik – Minister of Public Enterprise Sector Tawfik holds a Master's Degree in finance from King Fahd University in Saudi Arabia, as well as a BA in Economics and Business Administration from the American University in Cairo. Tawfik served as an advisor to the minister of finance from 2005 to 2007. He was CEO of Arabiya Online Brokerage Company and is a member of the board of directors of the Arab Real Estate Bank. Ashraf Sobhy – Minister of Youth and Sports Sobhy received a Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education from Helwan University in 1989, and holds a Master's Degree in public relations and sports administration as well as a PhD in sports administration from the Universities of Helwan and Ottawa. As an athlete, Sobhy competed in various Karate tournaments and has won Egypt's national karate championship. The minister started his career in marketing and public relations at several sports companies, and served as the director-general of Giza governorate's karate sports region from 1994 to 1997. In 2000, Sobhy was appointed public relations manager at Zamalek Sporting Club. He also served as an assistant to the minister of youth and sports from 2014 to 2016. Sobhy was also the executive manager of Bany Yas club in the United Arab Emirates in 2010. Amr Talaat – Minister of Communication Talaat has been general manager of IBM Egypt since 2010, with more than 30 years of experience in his field. He obtained a Master's Degree in computer science from the University of Illinois in the United States, as well as a Master's in business administration and a PhD in strategic management from the University of Paris. The new minister graduated from the Electrical Engineering Faculty at Cairo University. Younes El-Masry – Minister of Civil Aviation El-Masry, who was born in 1959, graduated from the Egyptian Aviation Academy in 1979. El-Masry served in the Egyptian Armed Forces and was appointed the Commander of the Air Forces in 2012. He also served as the head of the Air Operations Division and the Air Force Chief-of-Staff. El-Masry holds a Bachelor's in aviation and military sciences, as well as an MA in military sciences from the Egyptian Command and Staff College.
