Goalkeeper Sherif Ekramy is likely to start Ahly's Egyptian Premier League game against Petrojet on Sunday as he faces a race against time to convince Egypt coach Hector Cuper that he deserves a World Cup place. Ekramy, a long-serving Ahly keeper, was demoted to the bench earlier in the season for Mohamed El-Shennawi, who also took his place in Egypt's squad for the two friendly games against Portugal and Greece last month. The experienced Ekramy's chances of playing at the World Cup looked remote but a serious knee injury that hit Zamalek's Ahmed El-Shennawi revived his hopes of making Egypt's squad, at least as a third-choice custodian. With Ahly wrapping up a 40th league title with six matches to spare last month, coach Hossam El-Badry has the luxury of rotating his squad and Ekramy is likely to get his chance against Petrojet. "There is a high chance that Ekramy would be our keeper in the upcoming match against Petrojet," El-Badry told reporters after Ahly beat Wadi Degla last week. The Red Devils are also chasing several records. With three matches remaining, they are just two goals short of setting a record of the most goals scored by a club in a league season. They also need six points from their remaining games to achieve the biggest point tally in the competition's history.
