Cameroon suspends skipper Samuel Eto'o seven matches Russia's Anzhi Makhachkala Cameroonian striker will serve a seven-match ban on the international scene for urging his teammates for a strike earlier in November
The Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) Disciplinary Commission has reportedly suspended the national football team skipper Samuel Eto'o seven matches for his alleged involvement in the refusal of the Indomitable Lions players to play a friendly against Algeria on 15 November. The 30-year old player, Eto'o, was charged of inciting his teammates to boycott Algeria's friendly game because of the non-payment of bonuses following the team's triumph in the LG Cup held in Morocco in early November. The affair has made a big splash, and the Cameroon president has asked for an explanation from the ministry of sports and FECAFOOT as the Algerians expressed fury to the point that they refused to deliver visas to Cameroonian officials who wanted to travel to Algeria to present their excuses. The Algerian FA has filed a complaint with FIFA against FECAFOOT claiming damages up to $1million. After an inquiry, the committee also suspended vice-captain Enoh Tarkang Eyong and Tottenham defender Benoit Asso'o Ekotto four and three matches respectively for their role in leading the strike.
