An Egyptian exhibition titled ‘Eternal Light: Something Old Something New' is on display at the Egyptian Cultural Bureau in London this month. The exhibition is curated by Nadine Abdelghaffar, the founder of Art d'Egypte, and had its debut in October last year at the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, under the title Night at the Museum. The display gathered works by a number of established and renowned Egyptian artists to be displayed amid the ancient monuments at the museum, for only one night. The exhibition was then taken to a pop-up exhibition at the Ritz Hotel in Cairo, followed by a month long display in Westown Hub at SODIC West in November. In London, the VIP opening night on 2 March was attended by over 150 invitees despite the snow storm and difficult weather. It will close on 23 March. The selection of artwork on display in London is by 14 artists; Adam Henein, Adel El-Siwi, Ahmed Morsi, Esmat Dawestashy, Farouk Hosny, Farouk Wahba, Hany Rashed, Khaled Hafez, Mohamed Abla, Nazir Tanbouli, Said Badr, Sarwat Al-Bahr, Effat Nagi, and Salah Taher. The exhibition seeks to create a dynamic conversation between contemporary art and ancient culture, and what links them. Looking at Egyptian art as a continuum, the exhibition also sheds light on how these artists were influenced and inspired by ancient Egyptian art, or other aspects of Egyptian heritage.
