Nine people were killed in a deadly car accident Saturday morning on the Cairo-Ismailia highway, Egypt's health ministry said. In an official statement, the ministry said eight people were injured in the accident, when a taxi collided with a microbus, leading to a car fire on the highway. Health ministry spokesman Khaled Megahed said that the injured, whose injuries ranged from first degree burns to concussion, were transferred to Ismailia General Hospital. Saturday's accident comes less than a week after a deadly crash on the international coastal road of Alexandria left eight workers killed and 22 others injured. According to figures from the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS), 14,710 road accidents were recorded in Egypt in 2016, an increase of 1.1 percent from 14,548 in 2015. In 2016, 5,343 people died and 18,646 were injured in road accidents.
