Four people were killed and nine others injured when they were struck by a truck Wednesday morning on the Cairo-Alexandria Desert Road, on the outskirts of the capital, as they crossed the road, Al-Ahram Arabic website reported. Ambulances transferred the injured to nearby hospitals. A total of 5,343 people were killed in road accidents during 2016, according to a Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) report.
The report indicated a 1.1 percent rise in car accidents in 2016 compared to 2015, with 14,710 accidents taking place last year.
