Egypt's State Security Prosecution has ordered a 15-day detention pending investigation for journalist Moataz Wadnan, who recently interviewed former top auditor chief Hisham Geneina, on charges of joining an illegal organisation and inciting against the state. The prosecution accuses Wadnan of publishing news that incites hatred against the Egyptian regime and joining an organisation that was founded in violation of the law and constitution with the aim of obstructing the state. On 11 February, HuffPost Arabia published a videoed interview with Geneina, which was conducted by Wadnan, in which the former head of Egypt's Administrative Control Authority claimed former military chief of staff Sami Anan "posseses secret documents that could incriminate state officials." Geneina, who was arrested one day after the publication of the interview, has been detained by the military prosecution for 15 days pending investigation into his claims. The military said in a statement last week that Geneina's claims "amount to crimes and aim to raise doubts about the state and its institutions at a time when the armed forces are waging a battle to uproot terrorism in the Sinai region." Anan, meanwhile, is currently detained pending investigation of accusations of violating military rules and forgery of public documents.
