French Marseille flirts with Egypt keeper El-Shennawy Marseille could give up-and-coming goalkeeper first ticket to European football competitions; Masry president tips him to one day guard Barcelona
France's Olympique de Marseille have contacted Egypt's Masry asking to land their outstanding goalkeeper Ahmed El-Shennawy, according to the Egyptian club's manager. “There are ongoing negotiations with Marseille officials here in Morocco after the player's powerful performance in the tournament,” the Port Said club chairman Kamel Abou-Ali told Ahly channel Monday. El-Shennawy currently guards the under-23 Pharaohs in the CAF U-23 Championship in Morocco, receiving only one goal (against Ivory Coast) in three matches. He has thus inspired them to qualify for the 2012 London games, their first Olympic event in 20 years. “The player is still young and he is so talented. I wish him a great future in Europe and expect him to stand between Barcelona's sticks eventually,” Abou-Ali added. The 20-year-old was able to convince Egypt's seniors' technical staff, under the guidance of American manager Bob Bradley, to pick him, in their last friendly with giants Brazil, instead of the three-successive-time Africa champions' longtime guard Essam El-Hadary. “El-Shennawy will cost any club that desires him two million euros at least because he deserves that in comparison with many other keepers in Europe,” Abou-Ali insisted. In the event that El-Shennawy makes it to Marseille, he would be the fourth Egyptian keeper to play abroad after Nader El-Sayed, El-Hadary and Sherif Ekramy. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/28644.aspx
