New-signing Ashraf brace helps Zamalek to first league win
Published in Ahram Online on 17 - 09 - 2017

Newly-signed Zamalek midfielder Mohamed Ashraf scored twice to help Zamalek seal their first win of the new league season, beating Dakhleya 3-0 at Cairo's Petrosport Stadium on Sunday.
Ashraf, who was signed from Talae El-Geish in the close season, scored his first Zamalek goal from the spot in the 58th minute, before another new-signing in Abdallah Gomaa made it two six minutes after the hour mark.
Ashraf completed his personal double in the 79th minute with a fine strike from outside the area, as Zamalek claimed their first win under new manager Nebojsa Jovovic.
Zamalek manager Jovovic made four changes to his starting lineup from the El-Entag draw, with Syria full-back Moayad Ajan, holder Tarek Hamed, Madbouli and Gomaa all coming into the side.
In their bid to claim the league title following a trophy-less season, Zamalek signed a total of 15 players in the summer in addition to a handful of players returning from their respective loan stints.
The Whites, who opened their league campaign with a 1-1 draw with El-Entag El-Harby last week, take on Hossam Hassan's Masry on Friday.
Three second-half goals
Following an insipid first half, where Zamalek failed to mount real threat on goal against a retreating Dakhleya side, all the action came after the break.
A debatable penalty won by forward Gomaa, who had been adjudged by the referee to have been fouled inside the area, was successfully converted by Ashraf to give Zamalek the lead.
Gomaa then came to score his side's second himself, when he found the net from inside the six-yard box following a cross from the talented Ahmed Madbouli.
The most remarkable goal, however, came afterwards, when a fine team move featuring a superb ball control by Madbouli and a well-played cross by substitute Bassem Morsi saw the onrushing Ashraf strike directly towards goal.
The Whites could have added a fourth goal in the last minute of stoppage time but another new signing in Abdoul Razack Cissé failed to score as the match ended with a 3-0 victory.
