Cairo's Hanager Cinema screening five films starring renowned Egyptian actor Omar Sharif
Published in Ahram Online on 09 - 07 - 2017

Five films starring late Egyptian film star Omar Sharif (1932 - 2015) will be screened at Hanager Cinema for five days starting 10 July.
The selected films are Eshaet Hob (A Love Rumour, 1960), Funny Girl (1968), Fi Baytena Ragol (A Man in Our House, 1964), Lawrence of Arabia (1962), and Nahr El-Hob (River of Love, 1960).
The screenings will be followed by a roundtable with critics and actors, moderated by Ashraf Fayek, who manages the film activities of the Cultural Development Fund, which organised the film week.
Sharif's career spans over 100 films, both foreign and domestic.
Sharif worked with prominent Egyptian filmmakers including Youssef Chaine, Henry Barakat, Salah Abu Seif and Kamal El-Sheikh.
Considered one of the icons of the golden age of Egyptian cinema, many of Sharif's movies are carved in the minds of Egyptians and Arabs as pillars of classical cinema.
Sharif was Egypt's biggest box office star when British director David Lean cast him in 1962's Lawrence of Arabia. The film garnered Sharif a supporting actor Oscar nomination and international stardom.
A Love Rumor, directed by Fatin Abdel-Wahab, A Man in Our House by Henry Barakat and Nahr El-Hob by Helmy Rafla are three of Sharif's best-known films.
Sharif starred in the classic American musical drama Funny Girl alongside Barbra Streisand, who won an Academy Award and a Golden Globe for Best Actress. The film also won the Writers Guild of America Award for Best Written Musical.
Sharif died of a heart attack on 10 July 2015.
