Art Alert: Cairo's Hanager Arts Centre to screen films with Soad Hosny
Published in Ahram Online on 02 - 07 - 2017

The Hanager Arts Centre will screen a series of films with the Egyptian late actress Soad Hosny between 3 and 9 July.
The films will include Saghera Ala El-Hob (Too Young for Love, 1966), Hob Fi El-Zinzana (Love Behind the Bars, 1983), Shafiqa and Metwally (1979), El-Zoga El-Thanya (The Second Wife, 1967) Khalli Balak Min ZouZou (Take Care of Zuzu, 1972), Al-Mashbouh (The Suspect, 1981) and El Motwahesha (The Wild One, 1971).
Dubbed the 'Cinderella' of the Egyptian screen, Soad Hosny was born on 26 January 1942 and raised in an artistic family.
Across her career she acted in over 90 films with her final film being Al Ra'i We El-Nissa (The Shepherd and the Women, 1991).
Hosny passed away 21 June 2001 when she fell from the window of her friend Nadia Youssry's London apartment. Her death remains shrouded in mystery.
"Her last days in London were filled with loneliness and sorrow as she battled her disease in exile. She expressed faith, however, that she would get better and resume her acting career, which is one of the reasons why many do not believe she committed suicide," Menna Taher wrote in Ahram Online when reviewing the book Cinderella Tatakalam (Cinderella Speaks) by the journalist Monir Motawea (2011).
The screenings at the Hanager Centre are organised by the Cultural Development Fund, a body operating under the Minsitry of Culture.
All films begin at 7pm.
