The Egyptian comedy actress, Khaireya Ahmed, died yesterday after weeks of battling disease. The funeral took place yesterday at the Mostafa Mahmoud Mosque. “The year 2011 has been a tough year for the artistic circle as 25 artists from the actors' syndicate have died,” said Ashraf Abdel Ghafour, the syndicate's head. Khaireya Ahmed started her career 50 years ago and has performed in around 44 films, many of them with comedians Fouad El-Mohandes and Ismail Yassin. Her debut performance was in Youssef Chahine's Ibn El Nil (Son of the nile) in 1951 and hosted a show called Saa Le Kalbak (An hour for your heart) in the 1950's. She has also worked with many theatre troupes, including the El-Rihany troupe, Amin Heneidy's troupe and the Egyptian comedy troupe. Khaireya Ahmed appeared in several television series, including Al Hakeeka Wal Sarab (The Truth and the Mirage), Mama fil Kesm (My Mother at the Police Station) and Esabaet Mama we Baba (Mother and Father's Gang). She was married to the late satirical writer, Youssef Auf and had one son. Her sister is the actress Samira Ahmed, with whom she worked with. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/27037.aspx
