Veteran journalist Abdel-Mohsen Salama has been appointed the new chairman of Al-Ahram Organisation, the newly established National Press Authority (NPA) announced on Wednesday. Salama will replace Hisham Lotfi, who served as acting chairman of the organisation since former CEO Ahmed El-Sayed El-Naggar resigned in mid-April. Salama is also the current head of Egypt's press syndicate The head of the NPA Karam Gabr also announced several new appointments as heads of state-owned publications and press organisations. Alaa Thabet was appointed editor-in-chief of Al-Ahram daily newspaper, replacing Abdel-Hady Allam. Ezzat Ibrahim was appointed editor-in-chief of the English-language Ahram Weekly, replacing Galal Nassar. Fouad Mansour was re-appointed editor-in-chief of the French-language Ahram Hebdo. Al-Ahram Organisation is the parent body of Ahram Online. Yasser Rizk was re-appointed chairman of Akhbar Al-Youm Organisation. Amr El-Khayyat was re-appointed editor-in-chief of Akhbar Al-Youm daily newspaper, while Khaled Meery was appointed editor-in-chief of Al-Akhbar Journal. At Al-Joumhouria newspaper, Saad Selim was appointed chairman while Abdel-Razek Tawfik was appointed editor-in-chief of the daily newspaper. Aly Hassan was appointed chairman and editor in chief of state news agency MENA. The NPA was created in December 2016 to oversee state-owned press bodies, replacing the High Council of the Press, which had overseen state-owned press bodies since 1996.
