'Revolution's injured alliance' stages Tahrir Square sit-in

Dozens of activists - many of them injured in the 18-day uprising - vow to remain in the square until long-standing revolutionary demands are met

Approximately 50 demonstrators continued an ongoing sit-in on Wednesday next to Cairo's iconic Tahrir Square to protest continued military rule in Egypt and demand implementation of longstanding revolutionary demands.
The group, which describes itself as the "revolution's injured alliance,” has maintained its sit-in for approximately one week.
Members of the alliance chatted with passers-by, while others drank tea and awaited the arrival of additional “injured revolutionaries” who they said would join them for a scheduled Tahrir Square demonstration on Friday.
Mostafa Mohamed, 45, was injured in the square on 28 January – at the height of the 18-day uprising – and joined the alliance after failing to receive promised health benefits and compensation.
"I'm not sure what the charity groups who collected donations for those injured during the revolution have done with the money," he said. "But we sure haven't seen any of it."
Mohamed says he suffered a bullet wound in the left shoulder and was struck by three rubber bullets in his abdomen.
According to organiser Ramy Magdy, alliance members will continue their sit-in until basic demands of the revolution are met; until those injured during the revolution receive medical treatment; until military trials for civilians are halted; and until Egypt's ruling military council delegates authority to an elected civilian government.
Magdy went on to point out that the post-revolution political forces that plan to stage demonstrations in Tahrir this Friday had similar demands, and would no doubt be protesting alongside them.
Alliance members also say they will boycott upcoming parliamentary polls, stressing their refusal to take part in any election until their grievances had been addressed.
