New goalkeeper El-Shennawy threatens veteran El-Hadary's throne
A promising debut from 20-year-old El-Shennawy could signal the end of El-Hadary's long international career with the Pharaohs

Egypt's technical staff, under the leadership of new coach Bob Bradley, has praised the performance of Masry goalkeeper Ahmed El-Shennawy, who made his debut for the Pharaohs on Monday, relegating long-time keeper Essam El-Hadary to the bench.
“El-Shennawy is one of the biggest benefits for the team to emerge from the Brazil friendly. It is normal that we chose him as El-Hadary has been out of action for a long time and wasn't ready for the game,” said Bradley.
The 20-year-old, who starred in the 2011 Under-20 World Cup in Colombia, under the helms of the current seniors' assistant coach Dia'a El-Sayed, was described as man of the match by many pundits although he was possibly responsible for the two goals scored by Valencia striker Jonas on 39 and 59 minutes.
“We were clear with El-Hadary from the first beginning. We told him he was an important player but it was important to have El-Shennawy in our camp because I am working for the future of the team,” said Bradley, the former United States coach.
The 38-year old El-Hadary, who has played for Ahly, Zamalek, Ismaily and FC Sion, is facing problems with his current club Merriekh of Sudan because he refused to attend training after claiming he hadn't received his salary. The club denied the allegation and demanded Egypt sideline the “uncommitted player.”
“El-Hadary's anger is normal as he is so keen to defend the Egyptian net and nobody forced us to sideline him,” Dia'a El-Sayed said.
“We need all players to fight for their position in the team,” goalkeeping coach Zaki Abdel-Fattah concluded.
