Costume design workshop to start on Monday, 14 November
Emad Eddin studio will host Nermine Said's costume design workshop; fashion designers or anyone who works in theatre should register by 13 November

Experienced costume designer, Nermine Said, will impart her tips on how to design costumes within a limited budget. The workshop starts on Monday, 14 November.
The free and intensive workshop is every day from Monday, 14 November to Tuesday 22 November and starts at 5pm and ends at 9pm. It will be given in Arabic.
Said graduated from AUC with a bachelor's in theatre and a focus on costume design and has since been working professionally in her field.
When asked specifically what level the workshop will teach to and what she will touch on she replied “It depends on the applicants. I haven't received all of the applications yet [which are due no later than Sunday, 13 November]. But the basis of the workshop will be: how to design a concept and a whole wardrobe within a limited budget. Another focus will be the role and responsibilities of a costume designer.”
Regarding the participants: “I prefer if the participants work in theatre; either directors, set designers, etc. Or fashion designers!” she emphasised.
Some of the tips she will give is how to use your own wardrobe, where second-hand shops and cheap fabric markets are in Cairo and how to make minor changes to suit the play's aim.
When asked what her favourite project was, she replied the play at the American University in Cairo called The Thief, set in 1949.
“It was such a unique concept: as if you are watching a black and white movie, where even the set was in greys. The only colour that was introduced was red.”
She continued, explaining “Our designs played on the psychology of the actors. We worked in parallel with the development of the character. For instance, one person started the play with problems, so she wore blacks & greys. By the end of the play, she was wearing lighter colours.”
