Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi discussed on Thursday in Cairo the latest developments in Libya with the chairman of the Libyan Presidential Council Fayaz Al-Sarraj, the Egyptian presidency said in a statement. Al-Sarraj expressed his appreciation for the positive role Egypt has played in pushing for a political settlement in the ongoing crisis in war-torn Libya. Al-Sarraj also discussed with El-Sisi the efforts undertaken by the Libyan House of Representatives in reaching a consensus between the various Libyan factions. The Libyan official also stressed the Libyan Presidential Council's conviction that negotiations between Libyan factions should be based on the terms of the agreement brokered by the UN in 2015. The Egyptian president assured Egypt's position in support of the unity of Libya and the respect of the will of the Libyan people. Al-Sarraj is heading a Libyan delegation in Cairo for talks with Egyptian officials. He met on Wednesday with Egypt's Chief of Staff Mahmoud Hegazy.
