Trust me I am making the right calls, says Ghana coach After securing a place for Ghana in the 2012 African cup of Nations, Serbian coach Goran Stevanovic assures fans the team is in safe hands
Ghana's coach Goran Stevanovic has insisted that he is making the right calls for the Black Stars team, denying being affected by any pressure. Ghana qualified for the 2012 African Cup of Nations in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea after Saturday's 2-0 win over Sudan, becoming leaders of group I with 16 points. The 44–year old coach was criticised by local media for dropping the in-form Olympique Marseille midfielder Andre Ayew for the team's two recent games against Sudan and Nigeria. “Ayew was not fully fit at the time I was finalising my squad for the two games and I was not sure if he would recover in good time. I think I made a good decision," Stevanovic was quoted as saying by Kickoff.com. “For each game, my calls are based on the opponent,” he added. "The door is open for everybody. I don't forget. The rule for all is discipline. The players believe me and I believe in the team too,” the coach replied when asked about the continued absence of AC Milan midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng from the team. The focus on absent players seemed to upset Stevanovic who has secured Ghana a chance to take the African title and end the country's 30-year wait. “I don't know why after a great game against Sudan to qualify for the Nations Cup we need to talk about negative things. I take decisions and I stand by the decisions," he concluded.
